White Leafed Fig (Ficus Grossularioides)
This fig shrub is very common along the secondary forest edges, in wooded undeveloped land and along undisturbed hedges. It can grow up to be a small tree, of up to 9 meters high. One of the most easily recognized figs, it is distinguished by its characteristics white leaf undersides. In Malay & Chinese, it is called respectively "Ara Putih" or "Bai-Rong". It has long leaf stalks and the leaves can grow to a relatively large size, varying in shape from being elliptic, heart shaped to palmate, with 3-5 lobes. The leaf veins are also prominently raised on the undersides which feels velvety. The figs are round, about 1.25 cm wide and grow in leaf axils. They would ripen to a yellow, then brownish ochre and finally orange or dark red.
