South Africa Leaf (Vernodia Amygdalina)
South Africa Leaf is a small shrub that originates from tropical Africa. It can be commonly found planted all over Singapore by the Chinese as a much sough after herb. It is commonly called bitter leaf because of the extremely bitter taste of the leaf when you eat it. The leaves may be consumed either as a vegetable (macerated leaves in soups) or aqueous extracts as tonics for the treatment of various illnesses. It is also supposedly able to help suppress, delay, or kill cancerous cell as well as being good for hypertension, uric acid excesses, diabetes and high cholesterol. It is recommended to take raw for best results. Alternatively you can also take 3 leaf, add in hot water& steep for ½ hr, Since it can be too cooling, you can also dry it through pan-frying (without oil) before making tea out of it.
