SEALING WAX PALM (Cyrtostachys Renda)
The sealing wax palm is also known as lipstick palm, maharajah palm, pinang rajah and red-stemmed palm. This is a clumping palm of up to 12 m tall. Its leaflets are boat shaped, slightly grey on the underside. It's most prominent characteristic is the bright scarlet sheath. which make this one of the most attractive of all palms. It can be found growing near the sea, by tidal rivers and in freshwater or peat swamp forests. The hard outer wood of the stem is used to make darts. This plant is also frequently cultivated as an ornamental palm in tropical countries.
